Ontañón Gran Reserva consists of Tempranillo strains and a small amount of Graciano, the native grapes for Rioja. The vines grow on clay and calcareous soils, rich in iron and minerals. Gran Reserva is a wine produced only in the highest quality vintages. Throughout the collection, the winemaker carefully selects the best fruits that come from the oldest vines. Gran Reserva must spend a total of five years in a vineyard (three years in a barrel and two years in a bottle) before being released to the market, and it is aging that gives quality, subtle spices, tobacco and dried fruits. It is a full, solidly built wine with a deep, ruby color. The bouquet is made of aromas of cherry, vanilla and smoke. In the mouth velvety, with nuances of cherry and caramel jam, with a long tip rich in juicy tannins. Notes of soft fruit, dark with a touch of earth with a floral aroma in the nose. Gran Reserva is the work and the best expression of the Bodegas Ontañón vineyard.
