Velar Monica
Velar Monica is an elegant red wine from Sardinia with aromas of cherries, plums, and red fruits, enriched by subtle spice notes. Soft and well-balanced, with delicate tannins and a pleasant, long finish. A short period of aging in oak barrels adds depth and harmony. Ideal with meats, stews, and aged cheeses.
Velar Monica Isola dei Nuraghi IGT is an expressive yet approachable red wine that showcases the character of the local Monica grape – one of Sardinia’s traditional varieties. It is produced in the area around Mogoro, where the climate supports the ripening of intensely aromatic fruit.
Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, with about 10 days of maceration on the skins to extract color and structure. The wine is then aged for approximately 6 months in French oak barrels, gaining elegance and complexity.
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby color with violet reflections. The aromas are rich and enveloping, dominated by notes of marasca cherries, plums, and red forest fruits, complemented by subtle spice nuances.
On the palate, it is soft, harmonious, and well-balanced, with delicate, slightly sweet tannins. The finish is long and pleasant, highlighting the wine’s fruity character.
It pairs beautifully with meat dishes, lamb, stews, and aged cheeses, especially pecorino.
