The wine was created from the combination of two grape varieties - Garganega 70% and Trebbiano of Soave 30%. Garganega is a white grape variety, native to Italy and grown primarily in Veneto. Some older sources mention Greece as the homeland of the variety, but the association probably stems from the style of the wine rather than the country of origin. The first preserved mention of the Garganega strain comes from the 13th century.
