Pouilly-Fumé "La Loge aux Moines" comes from a historic site above the village of Les Loges, which is an original part of the Pouilly-Fumé Appellation and is often considered the best. Benedictine monks chose this site to plant the first vines in the 11th century. It was formerly a place of welcome for pilgrims, known as the "house of monks" because it was located on one of the paths to Santiago di Compostella. This 4.5 ha monopoly is located entirely on the southern slope, at an altitude of about 200 m, overlooking the Loire. The soil is 100% Kimmerian marl and comes from an ancient seabed. This perfect soil type, also found in Chablis, is just 20 of the 1,200 hectares of appeal.
