The tradition of wine production in the Douro Valley dates back at least to Roman times. Unlike the Mediterranean climate, the Douro Valley is a hot and dry enclave, especially suitable for the cultivation of vines, olive trees and almonds. The landscapes are so diverse that you can only see vineyards and terraces at times, as is the case in the heart of the Douro, all the way to the Tua River, while elsewhere there is rocky vegetation and barren horizons fill the landscape, as is the case with Douro Superior, and the upper parts of the Douro River.
