Poggio al Tufo - Tommasi Family

POGGIO AL TUFO

The Tommasi company was founded in 1902. It originally functioned as Grandfather Giacomo's small wine farm, but over the years has grown into the largest family estate in Valpolicella Classico, run by the fourth generation of the family.

Tommasi Family Estates represents a family project to produce excellent wines in the most famous Italian regions. Since 1997, the fourth generation of winemakers has enriched their estates by choosing outstanding terroirs outside Valpolicella Classica. Tommasi properties extend over 570 hectares in four of Italy's best wine regions.

Poggio al Tufo is the first historical project of the Tommasi family outside the Valpolicella Classica region. It is the story of the fascinating Tuscan terroirs in which Tommasi began an ambitious project: creating high-quality wines that perfectly represent the extraordinary qualities of the Maremma Toscana. Smooth and stylish wines that faithfully reflect the sun and the unique soul of this land.

In 1997, the Tommasi family bought the Rompicollo estate in Pitgliano (Grosseto Province), a very important Etruscan site in the heart of Maremma Toscana, giving rise to the "Tuscany" project: POGGIO AL TUFO. The estate consists of 66 hectares of vineyards set in volcanic soil at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. After a very careful soil and climate analysis, the property was replanted with selected clones of traditional and international grape varieties. Tenuta Rompicollo is a rural and cozy agritourism farm, the result of the careful and conservative renovation of existing buildings.

A few years later, the project was extended by the acquisition of Doganella Estate, 24 hectares entirely devoted to an organic grape collection with full respect for the environment and nature. The Scansano Estate was also purchased, with 80 hectares of vineyards and ancient oak trees in the heart of the DOC Morellino zone.
