Quinta de ribeirinha

QUINTA da RIBERINHA

Vineyards

Our vineyards are situated in limestone-clay lands, in a dry Mediterranean climate and with southern exposures. We combine modern technologies with experience and knowledge passed down through generations. The grapevine is grown on integrated production systems in which the use of chemicals is reduced to a minimum, saving the environment and human health.

The main varieties grown in our vineyard are: Trincadeira Preta, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Aragonez, Alicante Bouchet, Fernao Pines, Arinto, Trincadeira das Pratas and Verdelho. The following are grown on a smaller scale: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewurztraminer.

History

Passion for wine and great dedication to winemaking has been passed down in the Candido family for generations. Jose Candido, the senior of the family, knew from an early age that wine would become his main source of income. In 1995, he developed his activities by handing over some of his duties to his son Joaquim Candido, who was a great enthusiast of wine and winemaking by passion, and a neurologist by profession. Joaqim Candido supported his father's actions through new plantings, building his own cellar and introducing new technologies and scientific methods into the production process. Soon after, his two children, Marian and Rui, an economist and a biochemist, joined the company's management board.

Ribatejo Wine Route

One of the important points on the Ribatejo Wine Route is a restaurant transformed from an old olive mill, offering wine and olive oil tasting. The old mill has been converted into a museum / restaurant / tasting room, a place full of symbols and memories. The owners try to preserve these memories by keeping the original look of the mill and filling it with traditional wine machines such as a press or grape grinder.
